Should the Wal-Mart stampeders be punished?

http://voices.kansascity.com/node/2945

Should people who callously ran over a man to get the best deal on a GPS unit or a plasma TV be punished?

I've heard many say that Wal-Mart should have provided better security. I agree that they could have prepared a little better, but do you think it's so much to ask people NOT to trample their workers? Is that something they really should have anticipated?

Reports said that even after paramedics arrived, the crowd wouldn't give them room and kept pushing and jostling paramedics. Then they were angry when they actually closed the store down. What kind of people are these??

So what's your opinion? Should the people who trampled him be punished? They have video and can identify the people who stepped on him. Should these people be considered murderers?

Personally I think they should at LEAST give what they bought that day to charity. I can't imagine watching my loved ones open my "great deal" on Christmas morning, while elsewhere a family is mourning the loss of that man.

Oh yeah they should be punished! They knowingly trampled a living, breathing, person. I dont know if it should be a murder charge, but definitely manslaughter. That is rediculous.

The big problem was that once a group of people that large start moving, with the people behind pushing against the ones in front, it is hard for anyone to stop the flow of the crowd.

The big shock is that once the man was determined to be dead, that people were stubbornly refusing to leave the store.

A sad indication of our national decline in showing love for our fellow man.

.

Yes I think they should be punished, they killed a man. I used to work for walmart, they really don't care about there employees, to them your replaceable unless your a total suck up.

But in this instance I dont believe walmart was at fault, it was the people that ran the man down to get to the sales, these people were wrong and they basically murdered a man that was just doing his job.

What kind of people are these??- New Yorkers

The video may show who stepped on him but it is most likely that the people in the back where pushing forward and giving these people in the front no other option but to go forward which happened to be on this guy. I wouldn't call them murderers as I don't think it was intentional, they are sadly people who value materialistic things over being calm rational people.

Yes, they should. I'm not going to read the whole question or I'll get as angry as I got yesterday about this. I can't believe that there are people, especially on here, that are blaming Walmart and not the animals who did this. Do you know that once they were in the store and the store announced it was closing because of the tragedy and investigation, they complained that it wasn't fair because they had waited for so long?

Sadly, they ARE products of a society that has lost its way.

I agree 100%. Wal-Mart may have some responsibility, but the crazed animals who actually trampled a man to death and wouldn't stop grabbing merchandise even when told to leave the store should be held responsible. I don't know how this can be accomplished, however. One hopes that their consciences will bother them, but I suspect they had none.

Yes, if they can be determined and found. I know that surveillance tapes of the store are being reviewed.

At the very least, I expect that Wal-Mart will pay a large settlement to the family of this man. But I agree that it is a profound shame that this man is gone.

We saw horrible carnage in India this weekend. It seems so senseless - such a waste - that in this safe and prosperous country we kill our fellow citizens over bargain-price merchandise.

Every MORON that ran over that poor guy should be put on trial for second degree manslaughter. Nevermind the fact that only LOSERS wait in line at 4am at Walmart for a dollar off of their favorite dishsoap, causing a stampede to get into that ghetto store is beyond ridiculous. The family should sue the store and every one of the LOSERS running over this guy.

The whole thing was caught on security cams and EVERY ONE of them should be identified and prosecuted.

It is SICKENING how people act.....especially to celebrate the birth of the Prince of PEACE.

Walmart should not have created the climate of "act now or be left out".... and the PEOPLE shouldn't have been so IGNORANT as to run over other people just to save some money on JUNK they probably didn't NEED in the first place!

Plenty of blame to go around, and EACH ONE should be held accountable.

Of course these animals need to be prosecuted!!!! I also think they need to do away with this black Friday garbage too. Why would anyone in their right mind get up at 4 in the morning to save a few bucks? It ain't like they are giving away free money or anything.

In the words of Linus, "not only is Christmas getting to commercial, it's getting too dangerous."

People should conduct themselves in a proper manner and not like a herd of cattle going to Market. Walmart should have better Security and protocal for Black Friday, this was a tragicday a human life was taken for the chance to save a dollar. People somebody should be liable morally and criminally for impending medical help which may have saved a persons life

They should 100% be punished. Security or not, it was violence! By saying that there was not enough security and therefore the people shouldn't be punished is like saying someone shouldn't be held accountable for murder because there was nobody there to stop him or her for it.

This Black Friday crap needs to stop. Stores should simply handle it like buying concert tickets. You get a number ahead of time, and you show up that day. A random number is pulled from a hat and the person with that number is the first in line and everyone else goes behind him in order.

.

i live on long island.. and when i heard this i thought it was a rumor... till i read in on the front page of newsday.

it just shows how selfish and truely horrible americans can be.

we put the goddamn stereotypes on ourselves by doing things like this.

i feel horrible.

Anyone who was involved in trampling this man should be punished. Wal-Mart cannot be held responsible for the careless actions of greedy people who can't handle acting responsibly during a sale. These people for sure should be held accountable for their actions.

Yes, I can't believe they actually let the people LEAVE after that - everyone should have been detained until they could make some arrests. The killers should be enslaved for the rest of their lives and made to work for the dead man's family.

yes I think they should. We are human beings not cattle. We should act like human beings, thinking rationally is what seperates us from animals. After seeing the news, I was ashamed to be part of the same species. It was complete stupidity.

This was a horrible tragedy! And yes...if they can positively identify the people who knocked him down and walked over him, absolutely prosecute them!! It's no wonder the world views us in such a negative light, when we conduct ourselves like animals!

If you can find them. charge them. Assault, negilgent homicide, manslaugher.

Whatever you can find in the book; throw it at them

Hell yeah my step-dad got kicked and knocked to the ground because a lady thought he was cutting bt they were wating to leave because lines blocked the exit and it's really funny because they didn't have any packages

Yes. The cops should have sealed the store as soon as they arrived. They let the people out one at a time while checking them against the security tapes.

heck yeah because the workers aren't animals.. they are humans too... although i'd hate something similar happening to an animal

Yes, and not by giving what they bought to charity. They should be punished with prison for manslaughter.

They should be commended.....standing outside all night long just to save 50 bucks.....what will power.....what determination.....what fortitude....what FUC_ING IDIOTS.

Killing someone to get personal items is absolutely inexcusable.

Someone should get prison time.

Yes, they should be executed by stampeding.

YES... security or not.....

it is totally inhumane to be so thoughtless as to trample over a person.......

no excuse for it........... period!!!!!!!!

yes, i think someone should be punished

Yes

YES!!!!

it's american society that's to blame, they're just products of that f'd up system that has no compassion and respect for others...
